Bee created this beautiful masterpiece for me. Then she proceeded to write on her shirt, her face and my dining room chairs with purple dry-erase marker. Sigh.
Z monkey lost her very first tooth today after soccer practice! She’s already written a note to the tooth fairy and can’t wait to go to bed tonight with her tooth under her pillow.
What is that you might ask? Well, I’m not sure myself, but if I remember correctly it used to be long hours spent working in the garden or reading a good book. These days peace and quiet is more like a quick 5 minutes where no one is crying or asking me the same question over and over and over again, and I don’t have to feed someone, bathe someone, change someone, pick up after someone (well, I always have to do that), buy a birthday present for someone, drive someone somewhere, be somewhere, or do anything in particular. I find myself, right now, experiencing a rare moment of peace and quiet where the only sound I hear is the drone of the dryer–which is oddly comforting. The baby has screamed herself to sleep and ZMonkey is at a camp doing big girl stuff. Greg is at jiu jitsu and even the dog is lying down, not bugging me for food or attention. It’s quiet. Almost too quiet. But I could get used to this.
Of course, I would not change my life for anything. My kids are amazing and my life, though a bit chaotic, is pretty much perfect as far as I’m concerned.
So, the question becomes, what do I do with myself? I know this moment is fleeting–so I don’t want to waste it. I could do the dishes, or another load of laundry. I could pick up the ridiculous number of toys that are spread across my house as if a toy factory exploded, or the clothes that never seem to make it into the laundry room, or the giant boxes of diapers from Costco. I could pay the bills, or catch up with friends on Facebook.
Or I could just sit here and listen to the dryer, and appreciate my life for what it is and enjoy the peace and quiet–even if it is only 5 minutes.
I love days like this…a perfect afternoon at Riviera’s. The Bee diggs the ocean. It’s hard to keep her out of it. She also likes to eat sand, but that’s another story. We didn’t have enough of this kind of weather this year. Sad to see summer go…
Daddy took Z Monkey on her first camping trip of the summer. Once again the princess fishing pole enabled Z to catch her limit.
This is all we can see the ipad is good for so far.?
Here’s what Biz is doing today. At 1 year and a month or so, she says “momma”, “mom”, “dadda”, “hi”, “hi Iz” and now “Bark Bark” (when referring to the dog–or any dog for that matter). She walks well if you hold her hands but refuses to take the all important solo steps. That’s okay with me–she can take her time. 
We spent some time at the beach when Z’s cousins visited back in March. Summer is definitely coming. You can tell because the volume of people around here triples. Still, we’ve had some nice beach days lately. We’re thinking we should have a “stay-cation” and enjoy spending some time in the nice place where we live.
